Hi there! My name is Christine and I’m the founder (designer, maker, salesman, etc. etc) of COMMAND knitwear. Originally trained as a professional architect, I couldn’t get rid of the ‘fashion bug’ that has followed me all my life. When starting out on this new journey of creating a fashion brand, I knew I had to do it the best way possible. For me that meant many things, but primarily that…
#1 - the clothes have a complete lifecycle that did not end in a far away landfill and…
#2 - no one or nothing was harmed in the production and life of the garment - that includes the soil, animals, farmers, mill workers, dyers, fabricators and finally YOU, the wearer and YOUR environment.
It was a little bit lucky that Climate Beneficial fibers were starting to increase production around the time that I was searching for the perfect material. Can you believe that this wool is actually a carbon negative product?? At the same time, I was learning how harmful synthetic dyes are to our health and the world. (Shout out to Rebecca Burgess and Alden Wicker!) That’s when I knew COMMAND knitwear had to figure out how to use only natural, plant based dyes - safer for you and the world.
And finally after much research and a few bumps in the road, here we are - COMMAND knitwear. It is a work in progress for sure! Everyday we grow and adapt as we learn more about how fashion impacts the planet and how we can do it better and make it easier for you to access clothing that feels good and fits your values.
